Family Partnership & Leadership

Healthy family relationships and active parent involvement provide children with the stability they need to explore, play, and learn. Research highlights that the first five years of a child’s life are crucial for healthy development. When parents serve as positive role models and foster early learning experiences at home, they lay a strong foundation for future academic success.

The Family Partnership and Leadership (FPL) program offers advocacy and leadership opportunities, encouraging Head Start families to take on roles as leaders and educators in their children’s development. Parent engagement activities are designed to strengthen family involvement, which is essential for preparing children for school and promoting their overall well-being.

FPL creates opportunities for parents and families to participate both at home and within Head Start centers and classrooms as volunteers. Classroom volunteering provides valuable hands-on experience for parents interested in pursuing careers or degrees in education. Programs like Instructional Volunteers allow parents to collaborate with teachers and staff, fostering a learning environment that nurtures positive, trusting relationships.

In addition, FPL offers training and support in adult education, ESL, GED preparation, and professional development, equipping parents with the skills and knowledge to enhance their academic, professional, and financial potential. This empowers them to achieve greater success in the workforce and higher education.
